Toru Ota Named President of Kansai TV

Toru Ota, legendary Japanese drama producer and former Executive Vice President of Fuji Television Network, Inc. (Fuji Television) has been appointed President of Kansai Television Co. Ltd. (Kansai TV)
Ota joined Fuji Television in 1981. As a drama producer, he created many of the most popular Japanese dramas of the ‘80s and ‘90s, including “Tokyo Love Story,” “The 101st Proposal,” and “In the Name of Love.”
He was appointed Senior Executive Managing Director of Fuji Television in 2013 and Executive Vice President of Fuji Television in 2022.
As head of international business, he has played a central role in the overseas expansion of the Japanese content industry, with successes such as international drama co-production with ZDF Enterprise (Germany), and concluding strategic partnerships with bilibili (China), in areas including animation.
He was awarded the MIPCOM 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the international entertainment industry.
Kansai TV, Japan's leading broadcaster was established in 1958, and is a terrestrial channel covering western Japan including major cities Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe. As an affiliate of the Fuji Network System, Kansai TV produces and broadcasts dramas, entertainment shows, news, and documentaries throughout Japan.
Kansai TV is renowned in the international market for producing prestigious drama series, with “Crisis” and “Elpis” selected for the MIPTV/MIPCOM Asian World Premiere Screening in 2017 and 2022 respectively.
