“GTO” stands for “Great Teacher Onizuka.”
Eikichi Onizuka is a former delinquent biker—self-centered, a fad-chaser, and driven by his instincts. He clearly runs hotter than anyone around him and acts before he speaks.

Yet for all his flaws, his dream is to become a teacher.
After being specially hired at a high school, he's put in charge of a class full of troublemakers. Some of the students even hate school and refuse to attend.
To make matters worse, he's given a harsh condition: if he can't bring every student back to the classroom, he’ll be forced to resign.
