Tadao Ando’s “Youth”:
Entrusting the Future to the Children
安藤忠雄の青春 こどもに託す未来
Documentary / 2025

- English Subtitle
This work closely follows world-renowned architect Tadao Ando’s mission to deliver books to children.
Ando has designed the “Library Book Forest” a ship converted to a library that sails around the Seto Inland Sea and islands.
He says that books nurture the “imagination” lacking in this age, where information can easily be gained from the internet and smartphones.
The ship is filled with Ando’s hopes that children living on remote islands without public libraries can experience many books, cultivate their imagination, gaze at the vast sea, and spread their wings to the world. This project also explores how he carved out his career and what he values in life by weaving together footage of interviews conducted with Ando 40 years ago, and current interviews.
We convey his unwavering passion for his work and his philosophy on life, where he is still in his “youth.”
